In the past, the number of tracks available to listen to was a major differentiator between the online best music services, but this distinction no longer exists. All three services offer over 60 million tracks, making them nearly identical in terms of size and quantity. These days, though, quality matters more than quantity, and some services even offer more obscure artists. Depending on your tastes, you may want to use one of the free trial options to find out which one suits your needs best.
Tidal
If you love listening to music, you've likely tried out Tidal online. This Norwegian-American company launched a music streaming service in 2014 that offers both music audio and video. Its unique business structure empowers artists to take control of their music and platform, and it boasts a 60-million song catalog. Additionally, it offers access to both music videos and podcasts. And since it's accessible on so many devices, you can enjoy it anywhere.
Apple Music
If you want to discover new artists, you should check out the Apple Music playlists. These can be confusing for people who are used to listening to the top artists. Some artists have no commercial appeal but are worth checking out. You can find playlists for artists such as Adele and Taylor Swift. Another option is genre-based playlists, like one devoted to psychedelic folk. You can also search by genre, like rock, pop, and psychedelic.
Spotify
Streaming music services are becoming increasingly popular, and with good reason. Unlike traditional CDs, they give you access to a virtually unlimited catalog of music. Not only can you listen to the most popular tracks, but you can also create custom playlists, download albums, and more. As a music lover, Spotify is a godsend. But it also comes with a few drawbacks. Here are just a few.
Deezer
The Deezer online music service is available across all platforms, so it's easy to access it anywhere you go. You can download its Android or iOS apps or use the web player. It has a wide range of options, from curated playlists to new releases. In addition to its mobile app, Deezer offers desktop apps for PC and Mac. The site offers a free 30-day trial and offers the option to purchase a subscription.
Amazon Music Unlimited
The search bar on the home page of Amazon Music Unlimited shows "Albums for You." The music you've recently listened to appears in a gray box, and you can expand it to display the song's lyrics. They are small, but there is no way to turn off the lyrics. It would be nice to be able to skip them, but that's not possible. We've found this to be a tad annoying and we've resorted to muting the music.
Beatport
In August 2007, Beatport launched the community-oriented site, "Beatportal." On March 18, 2008, it introduced the "Beatport Music Awards" which honor the best electronic music artists. These awards are based entirely on unit sales on Beatport. If you're interested in what goes into winning these awards, you can check out the full list of winners. Also, be sure to check out the Beatport Community Awards.
